Raylen Wilson, the son of former NFL wide receiver Robert Wilson, is a special athlete.

He will return kicks, play offense and definitely lock down center field as a linebacker for his Lincoln High School football program in Tallahassee.

Wilson, who just turned 17, also runs track. This spring he set a personal best of 10.91 seconds in the 100 meters. That’s pretty outstanding for a young man who already weighs well over 220 pounds.

It will be something to see what Glenn Schumann and Kirby Smart can do with another notable athlete like this in the teeth of the Georgia defense.

The former Michigan engagement has made a new college decision. He’ll be a ‘Dawg. The LB contender No. 4 and the country’s 71st overall contender shared that word via his social media today.

Wilson is a special athlete because his late father influenced all of his children. They are all remarkable athletes.

“It’s really because of all the work that my dad put on me and my siblings on the track and soccer field when we were kids,” Wilson said this summer. “He drummed that into me if it would be me [at his size] I had to run like a little man and I do.”

Blow like a jackhammer. Run like a slot receiver. That’s what Wilson does.

His father always told him that.

“My dad passed away in 2020 and he has been my why my entire life and will always be my why,” Wilson told DawgNation this summer.

Wilson’s engagement story would be incomplete without sharing how his father shaped Raylen’s football career.

“I’m giving you the recipe to be great at football,” Wilson said while retelling his father’s words. “You have to take it to the kitchen.”

And the recipe was?

“I had to be willing to work hard every day and listen to everything he said to me,” he said. “And I’ve done that ever since.”
