iPhone 14 Release Date News: The Latest

The iPhone 14 release date is fast approaching. We’re expecting four new iPhone 14 models this year, which are expected to be available for pre-order in a few months. Below are full details on everything we know about the release date, potential delays and more.

iPhone timelines through the years

While early models were typically unveiled in the first half of the year, Apple has since moved to a consistent schedule of announcing and releasing new iPhone models in September. Here’s a brief timeline of iPhone releases over the last few years:

  • iPhone 13: September 23, 2021
  • iphone 12: October 23, 2020
  • iphone 11: September 20, 2019
  • iPhone XS: September 21, 2018
  • iPhone X: November 3, 2017
  • iPhone 8: September 22, 2017
  • iPhone 7: September 16, 2016

As you can see, the iPhone release schedule has become relatively consistent, but with two big exceptions. The iPhone 12 series was delayed by a month in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The iPhone X was announced in September but wasn’t released until November. As you might remember, the iPhone X had a completely new design and was the first iPhone with Face ID.

The iPhone 14 lineup is expected to bring camera upgrades, a redesign for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, and more. For example, the Pro models are said to be equipped with a hole punch + pill-shaped cutout. The front camera is expected to be updated, a new purple color could be offered and there are rumors of an always-on display.

iPhone 14 release date iOS 16

This year, everything points to the iPhone 14 being on track for an announcement and release in September. These include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. That’s the full range of new iPhone models we’re expecting this year.

If history is any indication, Apple generally holds its annual special event on the first or second Tuesday in September to announce new iPhone models. This year that would be September 6th or 13th. Since Labor Day in the United States is September 5th, the most likely date for a keynote address this year is September 13th.

After all, we cannot completely rule out delays. As we have discussed many times, there are a variety of issues affecting the supply chain right now, ranging from shortages to shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So far we’ve only seen one report indicating that the iPhone 14 is facing production delays. And even that report suggested that the delays affected the iPhone 14 Max, not the other three modes. Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPhone 14 lineup is still on track for a September launch and release. However, he noted that the iPhone 14 Max is “lagging behind” but the situation is “under control.”

However, Apple will always prioritize iPhone production over its other products. The iPhone is the company’s biggest product, generates the most revenue and interests Wall Street investors the most. If more supply chain issues surfaced, we would likely see other products being delayed before the iPhone 14 is delayed.
