God of War Ragnarok: What is it?

God of War Ragnarok is an action-adventure game with RPG elements developed by Santa Monica Studio in collaboration with Valkyrie Entertainment. It’s a direct sequel to 2018’s God of War, the PS4 game that overhauled the franchise with its Norse mythology and other major changes. Following the exploits of Kratos, a god with a violent past, and his son Atreus, players will venture into a frigid, unforgiving landscape and engage in brutal combat, defeat larger-than-life bosses, solve environmental puzzles, and more.

God of War Ragnarok: what is the release date?

God of War Ragnarok will be released on November 9th, 2022. This is a worldwide release date, with the game releasing physically and digitally everywhere on the same day.

God of War Ragnarok: What platforms is it running on?

God of War Ragnarok will be available on PS5 and PS4.

God of War Ragnarok: What are the differences between the PS5 and PS4 versions?

God of War Ragnarok will be exactly the same core game on both PS5 and PS4. You’ll experience everything related to the story, combat encounters, and exploration, regardless of which console you’re playing it on. However, the PS5 version will have some advantages over the PS4 version due to its higher performance and unique features. While not officially confirmed yet, these will likely include:

  • Reduced loading times
  • Improved visual fidelity
  • Multiple video options that allow you to choose between a higher frame rate or higher resolution
  • Haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support on the DualSense controller
  • 3D audio
  • activity cards and game aid

God of War Ragnarok: Is there a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade?

no If you buy God of War Ragnarok on PS4 and want to upgrade to the PS5 version at a later date, it will cost you $10/£10. Alternatively, you can purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or one of the non-standard physical editions to get access to both versions.

God of War Ragnarok: Does it support PS4 to PS5 save data transfer?

This has yet to be officially confirmed, but we can assume that God of War Ragnarok will indeed support Cross Save. Previous Sony games allow players to transfer their save data from the PS4 version to the PS5 version. These include Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo 7, and Horizon Forbidden West. It’s probably safe to say that God of War Ragnarok will follow suit.

God of War Ragnarok: Coming to PC?

God of War Ragnarok will be exclusive to PlayStation consoles at launch. Given that Sony has decided to port its first-party titles to PC, it stands to reason that this game will eventually make the leap. It will be a couple of years or more for that to happen, so PC gamers will have to wait a bit.

God of War Ragnarok: How much does it cost?

Although prices for God of War Ragnarok have not yet been announced, we can say with certainty that it will be a full price game. The Standard Edition will most likely be available for $69.99/£69.99 on PS5 and $59.99/£59.99 on PS4.

God of War Ragnarok: What is the story?

The story of God of War Ragnarok follows the events of the previous game. Ragnarok, the doomsday battle prophesied by the Norse gods, is upon us, and Kratos and Atreus must prepare for it by visiting each of the nine realms. As Atreus tries to figure out who he is and the Asgardian gods look on, the father-son duo find new allies and even more enemies as they try to prevent Ragnarok. However, tensions are high; Kratos has spent years recovering from his blood-soaked past, while Atreus argues that battles are inevitable.

God of War Ragnarok: Do you need to play previous God of War games to understand the story?

You probably don’t have to worry about playing the Greek-era God of War titles, as the Norse games are pretty distant and tell a mostly separate story. However, we do encourage you to play God of War (2018) if you haven’t already before exploring God of War Ragnarok.

While it’s not strictly necessary, playing the last game before the sequel will give you a lot of information and lore relevant to Ragnarok. Luckily, God of War (2018) is pretty widespread. The game is available for PS4 and PC and is also included in the PS Plus Collection if you have a PS5. In addition, the game is part of PS Plus extra.

If you don’t have time to play the previous game before God of War Ragnarok, stay tuned for a full story recap that runs through all the key narrative beats leading into the sequel. We will update this page as soon as it becomes available.

God of War Ragnarok: What are the new gameplay features?

While God of War Ragnarok will play very much like the previous game, there will be a new thing or two to enjoy. The first notable thing that comes to mind is riding a sleigh pulled by wolves to circumnavigate the frozen Lake of Nine. Further gameplay details are thin at the moment, but we’ll update this page as more is revealed.

God of War Ragnarok: Will the game be shot in a single take?

God of War (2018) was unique in that the entire game was presented in a single, fluid camera angle that weaves around the plot but never contains a hard cut. It has been confirmed that God of War Ragnarok will follow this direction, with a steady shot following the action throughout the game.
