Apple AirPods Pro 2 release date prediction

Last updated:

There was no official one Apple AirPods Pro 2 release date not publicly announced yet, but we can certainly make a good estimate based on what we know and the predictions of reputable commentators and leakers. Read on for everything you need to know about the expected release date of the second-gen AirPods Pro.

AirPods Pro 2 Release Date Prediction

Distinguished Apple Commenter Ming-Chi Kuo has expressed his belief that he expects the AirPods Pro 2 release date sometime in the fourth quarter of 2022. Ultimately, it’s obvious that Apple wants to release its new product in time for Christmas shoppers to grab one, and the original AirPods Pro were released on October 30, 2019, so We think October – November 2022 is a good bet.

Design changes between AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro 2

As of now, there are no final details on the design of the AirPods Pro 2, but between Ming-Chi’s predictions and 9to5Mac’s undisclosed sources are the following likely inclusions.

form factor

There have been conflicting reports on the form factor of the AirPods Pro 2, with Ming-Chi Kuo postulating in early 2022 that he thought a complete redesign was likely, with the end product looking more like 2021’s in-ear Beats Fir Pro – a more aerodynamic appearance without the current “stem” section.

More recently, however, 52audio has released an image (see below) that appears to be of the new AirPods Pro 2, which looks similar to the previous one except with different earbuds. It pays to be a little skeptical about things like this, but the site has been right in the past when it came to predicting the design of the AirPods 3 ahead of release.

H1 chip update & LC3 codec

Apple’s current audio processor is the H1 chip, and the AirPods Pro 2 will likely see an updated version of that processor. This new chip should enable LC3 codec support, which means improved sound quality for music and voice calls, as well as greater stability, power efficiency and Bluetooth 5.2 support.

Lossless ALAC support

Apple Lossless Audio Codec, or ALAC for short, is Apple’s proprietary audio compression technology that allows users to enjoy music with no data loss and therefore no loss in audio quality compared to the original recording. Because of this, it obviously takes up more bandwidth/storage space on your device. Previously, this was not possible with Bluetooth headphones, but it is believed that the AirPods Pro 2 will be the first to change this.

Will the AirPods Pro 2 support lighting or USB-C ports?

Again, there are conflicting reports. In the tweet below, you can see that Ming-Chi Kuo expressed his belief that the AirPods Pro 2 charging case will continue to support the Lightning connection instead of upgrading to USB-C.

However, 9to5Mac has stated that USB-C connectivity will be a reality for the new wireless earbuds. We should know soon enough, one way or another.
