GAME NOTES | FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW – COLOMBIA

  • USWNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (including this game): Morgan (192), Rapinoe (189), Horan (111), Naeher (81), Lavelle (73), Sonnett (66), Purce (15), Huerta (14), Sanchez (9), Girma (2), pimple (1)
  • Tuesday’s starting line-up consists of nine different players from Saturday’s starting XI against Colombia, with Horan and Lavelle being the only players to start in both games.
  • Today’s starting XI average 67 caps per player, with three players – Morgan, Rapinoe and Horan – having more than 100 caps. In fact, Morgan and Rapinoe come into the game having combined more appearances for the USWNT (379) than the other nine players on that starting roster combined (363).
  • Conversely, three players in that starting XI – Sanchez, Girma and Pickett – have single-digit caps, with Pickett set to make her international debut.
  • defender Carson Pickett will play her first international match for the US women’s national team. Pickett, who was born without part of her left arm, is the first player with a limb difference to appear for the USWNT.
  • Pickett will be the fifth player to debut for the United States in 2022 and the 15thth player under Andonovski to earn a first cap. At 28 years and 286 days, Pickett is the oldest outfield player to debut for the United States since McCall Zerboni made her international debut in 2017 at the age of 30, and is the oldest outfield player to ever start in her first international for the United States.
  • Lindsey Horan will lead the squad if she makes her 111th place finishth All-time appearance for the USA and her third appearance – and third start – in 2022. This will be Horan’s fourth time as captain of the United States and first since the USWNT games against Australia, which conclude in 2021.
  • goalkeeper Alyssa closer returns to the starting XI for her 81St Hat overall and her third appearance this year. Naeher goes into the game with 46 career shutouts and ranks third in USWNT history in goaltender caps, wins (64) and clean sheets.
  • Ashley Sanchez will make her fourth career start – all in 2022 – as she makes her ninth appearance for the USWNT overall. Sanchez has appeared in every game for the USA since making her international debut against Australia on November 27, 2021 and has two goals and two assists in her international career so far.
  • defender Sofia Hurta she will make 6th Career start in her 14thth Cap overall with the USWNT. This is Huerta’s seventh cap since returning to the national team in November 2021, having won her previous seven caps over the course of 2017 and 2018, including a second-half appearance in the USWNT’s final game at the Rio Tinto Stadium against China in June 2018
  • Naomi Girma will earn her second career cap when she makes her second start for the USWNT. Girma, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft, made her international debut, playing the full 90 minutes in the USA’s win over Uzbekistan on April 12 in Chester, Pennsylvania.
  • Alex Morgan will make her first start for the US since October 21, 2021 as she is scheduled to earn her 192nd total caps. Morgan made her international debut on March 31, 2010 in Sandy, Utah in a snowy game against Mexico. Today’s performance against Colombia will see Morgan draw level with Brandi Chastain for the 14th timeth in the US all-time cap charts.
  • defender Emily Sonnet returns for her first start of the year with the USWNT and her 66thth total caps. Sonnett, who missed US April camp with a rib injury, was a substitute in USWNT’s SheBelieves Cup games against Czech Republic and Iceland. This is her first start for the USA since playing the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 win over Australia on November 27, 2021.
  • Megan Rapinoe should you earn 189th Hat as she makes her first start for the USWNT on October 21, 2021. Rapinoe returned to the field in Colorado for her first minutes of the year with the USWNT, assisting Taylor Kornieck’s goal in the 90th minuteth Minute. Rapinoe now has 72 career assists, a shy of Abby Wambach in third place on the USWNT’s all-time assists chart.
  • Rose Lavalle will make her fifth appearance and start in 2022 when she hits her 74th career cap for the USWNT. Lavelle assisted both of Sophia Smith’s goals in Saturday’s win against Colombia and has now been directly involved in seven goals in America’s last three games, with two goals and five assists in that span. Lavelle’s five assists so far in 2022 is already her most in a calendar year with the USWNT.
  • Forward Mosquito Purce do you deserve 15th Cap overall as she makes her second start of the year and first since USA’s win over New Zealand during the SheBelieves Cup on February 20. Purce has three goals and three assists in her USWNT career so far and has one goal in the 84th minute against Uzbekistan on April 12, their latest action in the crest.
  • Midfielder and reigning NWSL Rookie of the Month Sam Coffey is available off the bench for this game in Sandy. With Pickett receiving the starting nod for her first cap today, Coffey will be the only player in this squad still in the hunt for an international cap. Should she see action against Colombia, Coffey would become the 250th Players to earn a cap on the USWNT.
