Online co-op superhero action game Gotham Knights plays in an open world. And like all recent open-world games, people are wondering: how big is the map? Aside from the fact that this is pointless information – both large and small maps can work if what’s inside is good and interesting – the developers at WB Montreal recently spoke about the size of their Gotham City. Apparently it’s the largest version of the famous Batman location ever seen in a game. I am both excited and very tired.

In a new interview with game informant, Gotham KnightsExecutive Producer Fleur Marty and Director Geoff Ellenor answered various questions about the upcoming superhero game, including that Gotham City is “pretty big” in this new DC adventure.

“I didn’t superimpose one map on top of the other, but our Gotham is a big place,” Ellenor said game informant. “I spend a lot of my Zoom calls driving the Batcyle around Gotham. It’s one of the fastest and most relaxing ways to get around the city. It feels like a big place.”

Executive producer Marty went on to explain that the city has “a lot of layers” and that the team took great care to ensure that their version of Gotham City had a lot of “density and verticality.”

“It’s easily the greatest version of Gotham in video games,” Marty claimed.

He also described the Batcycle as the game’s primary “long-distance mode of transport”. So while you’ll be running, gliding, and…ghost hopping(?) across the rooftops of Gotham during missions, you’ll likely spend a lot of time between quests cruising the city streets, probably not following traffic laws either .

Gotham Knights – Official Gameplay Demo of Nightwing and Red Hood

The idea of a massive Gotham City sounds exciting for a co-op game Gotham Knights. Having a shared world that is big, dense and full of detail that I can spend hours exploring with friends could be awesome. However, if that content is boring, or the map is mostly empty or filled with boring side quests, the size could end up being more of a disadvantage than an advantage.

First announced in 2020 with a release of 2021 and then Postponed to March 2021, Gotham Knights looks rough and may need more time. But if the fight is even half as much fun as that Arkham Playing, I can picture myself having a good time in this massive version of Gotham City. sure, I would also much rather have a new single player Arkham game instead.

Nevertheless I am confident Gotham Knightsa game that, thanks to other delays, has quietly become one of the biggest next-gen releases of 2022. At least it might be fun to drive the Batcycles.

Gotham Knights Slated for release on October 25th for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It also has nothing to do with the awful looking CW show.
