National pride has plummeted, with a majority of Republicans and independents and nearly half of Democrats dissatisfied with their country, according to Fox News’ latest poll.
The poll released Thursday asked registered voters, “Are you proud of the country today?” to which just 39% said yes. That’s 12 points down from June 2017 (the last time the question was asked) and 30 points since June 2011.
Although the question has only been asked four times, this is the first time a majority is disappointed with the country: 56% are not proud, up from 45% in 2017 and 28% in 2011.

Independents and Republicans have reversed positions since 2017, while formerly “not proud” Democrats are now on guard.
In 2017, Republicans (by 31 points) and Independents (by 4 points) were proud. Today both groups are disappointed by the country, GOPers by 24 points and Independents by 35 points.
In 2017 Democrats were 17 points more likely to be disappointed with the country, while now they are split: 46% are proud and 48% aren’t.

Men also changed positions. They were more likely to be proud by 22 points in 2017, while they are now 14 points less proud. Women were dissatisfied in 2017 and still are today, but they were far less proud five years ago, at 9 points, than they are today, at 21 points.
Black voters remain in the “not proud” column, although the lead is shrinking: from a 28-point lead five years ago to a 9-point lead today.

The opposite is true for Hispanic voters, who have moved from 18 points proud of the US in 2017 to 24 points not proud today.

“Whereas pride in America was once considered a prerequisite for patriotism, that too was subsumed by partisanship. It seems that for many, pride and patriotism is no longer about our Democratic liberties, it’s about the person in the White House,” said Democratic pollster Chris Anderson, who conducts the Fox News poll with Republican Daron Shaw.
